Maureen Dezell was born in New York City, and grew up in New York, Ohio, New Jersey, and Baltimore, Maryland. She is a graduate of Boston College and received master's degrees in education and journalism from Boston University, where she also taught English as a Second Language for six years. A staff writer in the living/arts department at the Boston Globe, she has covered business, politics, social issues, local culture, and the arts for a variety of publications over the past two decades. She lives outside Boston with her husband and son, John and Christopher Shea.
